ARK: Survival Evolved has a new creature that players can leverage to their advantage. It is a beetle that can even carry a T-Rex.
What kind of beetle is this? On June 2nd, ARK: Survival Evolved added a new creature, the Rhyniognatha. This is an extinct beetle that belonged to the class of arthropods and can be found on the maps “The Island” and “Lost Island”.
As an omnivore, the giant insect in ARK feeds on both meat and berries, but cannot be tamed through feeding. Instead, a wild Rhyniognatha fertilizes one of your dinos, such as a Giganotosaurus, which later dies at the birth of the beetle.
You can adopt and imprint the newborn insect like a bred creature.

What can the beetle do? The Rhyniognatha brings a wide range of abilities that players can utilize in their struggle for survival.
Particularly useful is the beetle’s mobility. It can not only walk but also fly and carry up to two players on a saddle. The Rhyniognatha can also land on water and, for example, regenerate stamina there. Diving is also possible with the insect.
Furthermore, the Rhyniognatha is capable of carrying heavy objects and creatures and flying them to another location. Besides a safe, a tree platform, or even an industrial smelter, the giant beetle can also haul larger dinos. This cool beetle is thus the only creature in the game that can carry, for example, a Tyrannosaurus Rex and a Diplodocus.
Additionally, the Rhyniognatha possesses:
- the ability to shoot a resin shot at other beings that inflicts damage and immobilizes the victim after a certain number of hits
- a type of armor made from resin that surrounds its own body
- a roar that scares and drives away other creatures
