Netflix regularly releases figures on the most successful films of the streaming platform. In the current top list, there are many titles that can boast big-name actors – yet the films hardly remain memorable. At least that is suggested by the rather mediocre IMDb ratings.
How are the most successful films on Netflix determined? The ranking is calculated by dividing the watched hours by the runtime of a film or series to derive the views. The latter is then decisive for the ranking (Source: Filmstarts).
On IMDb, rather in the good midfield
In the current ranking of the English film category (as of December 31, 2023), there are several titles featuring well-known Hollywood stars. However, the IMDb ratings for most of them are rather mediocre, occasionally even good.
For instance, big stars like Gal Gadot, Ryan Reynolds, and Dwayne Johnson are in Red Notice. On IMDb, the film only manages to earn 6.3 out of 10 stars from 309,837 ratings.
Similar conditions can be observed in the subsequent positions in the ranking:
- Don´t Look Up with Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, and Cate Blanchett: 7.2 out of 10 stars from 583,275 ratings
- The Adam Project with Ryan Reynolds: 6.7 out of 10 stars from 225,296 ratings
- Bird Box: Close Your Eyes with Sandra Bullock: 6.6 out of 10 stars from 377,984 ratings
- The Gray Man with Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans: 6.5 out of 10 stars from 231,029 ratings
- We Can Be Heroes with Pedro Pascal: 4.7 out of 10 stars from 16,788 ratings
- The Mother with Jennifer Lopez: 5.6 out of 10 stars from 44,930 ratings
- Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery with Daniel Craig, Edward Norton, Kate Hudson, Dave Bautista: 7.1 out of 10 stars from 424,128 ratings
- Extraction with Chris Hemsworth: 6.8 out of 10 stars from 256,685 ratings.
- Extraction 2 with Chris Hemsworth: 7.0 out of 10 stars from 138,719 ratings
