With a long and diverse career like Ridley Scott’s, it’s almost surprising that The Martian, a later work, became the most successful film. Over the years, Scott has directed several cult films and modern classics, including Blade Runner, Alien or Gladiator.
Apart from spectacularly staged worlds full of suspense, he has also shown a knack for smaller stories, such as with Thelma & Louise or The Last Duel. What is special about Scott is that he feels comfortable in almost every genre, adapting his style accordingly. However, all of his works share the common trait of being visually fantastic – a remnant of Scott’s initial work in the advertising industry.
