Spider-Man can rely on various abilities. But the new villain Hellgate undermines the most important one.
Incredible strength, speed, agility, plus the ability to cling to walls, the webs and of course his intellect: Spider-Man has plenty of abilities that he uses to face his enemies.
But perhaps Spider-Man’s most important ability is the “spider-sense.” It warns Peter Parker of danger, gives him important hints about his surroundings, and ensures that he doesn’t take too heavy hits.
The spider-sense has saved Spider-Man many times from certain doom. It’s unfortunate that the new villain in Spider-Man’s life simply disregards the spider-sense.
Hellgate is too fast for the spider-sense
In the current comic series “Amazing Spider-Man,” Spidey is facing a new enemy. The massive axe-wielding fighter Hellgate stands against the web-slinger. And he’s not only extremely strong but also incredibly fast, as “Screenrant” reports.
So fast, in fact, that even the nearly infallible spider-sense can’t keep up. Instead of elegantly dodging Hellgate’s attack, Spidey takes a powerful shove that sends him crashing through the windshield of a car. Spider-Man notices that his spider-sense is telling him to move – but Hellgate has already struck.
That the spider-sense isn’t quick enough is extremely rare. It will be exciting to see how Spider-Man adapts in the upcoming issues.
Is the spider-sense always infallible? Not exactly. Some villains from Spider-Man’s past have perceived the spider-sense as too dangerous and found ways to neutralize it. Others are simply not detected by the spider-sense at all. A few examples?
- The Green Goblin was one of the first to nullify the spider-sense. Using a special gas, the spider-sense was dulled so that Spider-Man didn’t notice how he was being tracked home by the Goblin – only to be kidnapped.
- Venom traditionally did not trigger the spider-sense either, as Spidey was once bonded with the same symbiote.
- The vampire Morlun was too fast for some variants of Spider-Man who could not register him with the spider-sense.
