In Fortnite: Battle Royale actually erupted the volcano over the weekend and – as suspected – destroyed Tilted Towers. This led to mixed reactions from fans.
What happened to Tilted Towers? On Saturday, May 4, 2019, what many fans had predicted since Season 3 finally happened: Tilted Towers was destroyed!
The volcano, which was newly added in Season 8, erupted and several lava rocks crushed the city in a rain of fire, ash, and lava.
What does Tilted look like now? In the end, there was not much left of Tilted Towers. Only ruins and piles of ash, as well as debris and wrecks, covered the once thriving city. The whole scene resembles a disaster movie.
Only the “No Sweat Insurance” building has largely remained intact. This is ironic because the building has been destroyed in some way every season and was the only house in Tilted that was hit each time.
Fans react to the destruction
This is what the community says: In the community, thanks to many leaks and hints, it was already well known that Tilted would probably soon be history. Therefore, the reactions in comments and on Reddit were fairly varied:
- “Epic, please not Tilted Towers, why not Sunny Steps?”
- “Good event, finally the volcano did something!”
- “It would be cool if they made the Block bigger and launched a competition for who builds the coolest new Tilted.”
- “Just put a soccer skin in Tilted and shoot at it. Then it will be rebuilt in 2 minutes.” (Note: Soccer skins are considered outfits for tryhards, who explode in extreme building activities after each shot)
- “I’m smiling because it happened. I’ve been waiting forever for this place to burn down.”
- “Although I never landed there, it has been an iconic landing spot since January 2018. It is definitely sad that it is now gone.”
For one player – probably still very young – the brutal end of Tilted even caused loud crying.

Others use the end of Tilted for fun memes, including a reference to Bob the Builder.

Why were Tilted Towers so notorious? Ironically, fans have been calling for the end of Tilted Towers since Season 3. Because the place was extremely lucrative and offered plenty of loot.
Therefore, especially in the early days of Fortnite, a lot of players landed there, and only a few survived the ensuing massacre. The result was that there were often too few players in the mid-game of a match and players could search for minutes without finding any opponents until the storm gathered everyone together at the end of the match.
Therefore, there was a quick wish to “get rid of Tilted” and every season seemed to bring renewed hints about the imminent end of the place.
In Season 8 it finally happened. The question now is whether the ruins of Tilted and Retail Row (where a chunk also crashed) will remain or if Epic will create new locations in Season 9.
