“The most disappointing One More Thing of all time” – The reveal of CoD: Black Ops 7 causes frustration in the community

During the Xbox Showcase 2025, over 30 new games were shown. Among them was the famous One More Thing announcement of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. This has caused frustration in the CoD community.

What kind of game is this? The One More Thing at the Xbox Showcase 2025 was Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. The first-person shooter is the direct successor to Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, which was released in 2024. It is being developed by Treyarch and Raven Software. The publisher is Activision.

The setting of the game is the year 2035, and the world is plunged into chaos after the events of CoD: Black Ops 2 and CoD: Black Ops 6. Under the leadership of David Mason, the protagonist of Black Ops 2, the Black Ops team faces a manipulative enemy.

The campaign has been announced as a co-op experience, a novelty for the Black Ops series. In addition, there will be multiplayer and again a zombie mode. Here you can watch the reveal trailer:

The trailer made people curious, but it was CoD

What does the community say? Overall, the reveal of Black Ops 7 seems to be met with confusion and misunderstanding in the community. However, the trailer resonated with some people:

“The trailer made me really curious about what it could be. Maybe a new brand or the continuation of an older game – I was wondering what it would be and what the butterfly was about??? … And then it said CoD …” writes Knightseason on Reddit.

UltimateGamingTechie feels similarly. He titled his Reddit thread “That was the most disappointing ‘One More Thing’ I have ever seen. Really? Call of Duty??” The post has since received over 1,300 upvotes and more than 230 comments, all giving similar feedback.

Even under the trailer on YouTube, the comments sound very similar, even if it’s more about the fact that the last CoD game just came out. @NOOB_NINJ4 says, Black Ops 6 just came out dude (via YouTube). Commentator @MomentoaMori9813 writes that COD is the Fast and Furious franchise of the gaming world (via YouTube).

Here and there, fans are also calling for the return of the character David Mason. He has already been announced for Black Ops 7, which could please some players.

Why is the One More Thing so important? The biggest disappointment seems to stem not only from the fact that there will be a new Call of Duty. Most players seem to be upset because it was the One More Thing at the end of the showcase.

The One More Thing is the last announcement at major product presentations. Usually, this is where a really good, surprising, or simply highly anticipated game is shown. For example, Nintendo showcased The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom at the very end of their E3 Direct 2019. In 2021, the Game Awards featured the first gameplay of Elden Ring after two years of silence about the game as the One More Thing.

Of course, the reveal of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 was not the only game shown during the Xbox Showcase. The Summer Game Fest also presented several new games.
