The German modder Nekatus has shown images on Twitter that he created using UE5. The ARK fans are excited, and he himself believes that ARK 2 could look even better.
Who is the modder? Nils Menne alias Nekatus is a well-known creator of mods for ARK: Survival Evolved. Just in June, the map he created, Fjördur, was officially added to the game.
Fjördur is not the first map by the talented modder that has been officially integrated into the game. Already in 2019, Studio Wildcard incorporated a map created by Nekatus called Valguero into the survival hit.
Currently, Nekatus is working on a new map named Svartalfheim, which is completely without flying creatures. Good news for MeinMMO author Dariusz Müller, as he believes that ARK is becoming too easy with flying creatures.
What kind of photos did Nekatus share? Nekatus shared some images on Twitter that he created with the Unreal Engine 5 – the same engine that ARK 2 is based on. He used an asset pack in the engine to recreate the famous Redwood forests from ARK: Survival Evolved.

Could ARK 2 really look like this? In the comments to his Twitter post, Nekatus was asked whether he believes that ARK 2 will actually look this good. He replied that the most recent trailer for ARK 2 was recorded in-game and that the finished game could look even better than his images ( via Twitter).
We are embedding the trailer that Nekatus refers to in his statement:
What do ARK fans say about the trailer? Fans of the survival hit express their admiration for the images.
- Vattghornn via Twitter: “[…] It is stunning!”
- ZealousAvenger via Twitter: “This is amazing, it’s hard to say this isn’t real. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for all of us.”
- doc_ninten via Twitter: “I’m curious about what’s coming. It can only be good.”
- itlwhitetiger via Twitter: “Oh man, this is so beautiful. I’m looking forward to seeing what you (Nekatus) will do for ARK 2.”
What else does ARK 2 offer besides new graphics? While Nekatus creates stunningly beautiful images in Unreal Engine 5 and piques the curiosity of ARK fans for ARK 2, the highly anticipated survival title is expected to offer much more than just beautiful graphics.
In June, we learned through the Steam page of ARK 2 that the game is set to receive a ton of new gameplay elements. These include new building options, natural behavior of the game world, and cross-platform modding.
Additional highlights of the new gameplay are expected to include a soulslike melee combat system as well as free climbing and parkour. You can find an overview of the information shared on Steam in June about ARK 2 on MeinMMO.
