A new update for Black Desert can be aptly described with the slogan “Never change a running system”!
What do I need to know about the update? With the patch from July 24, 2025, the developers of Black Desert aimed to overhaul the combat system. The goal was to revise some problematically categorized aspects of combat and all affected areas to extract even more from the already genre-defining action skirmishes.
The numerous classes, values, griffin talents, damage calculations, and much more were affected. Accordingly, the official patch notes on playblackdesert.com are quite long and comprehensive.

What does “Verschlimmbessern” mean in Korean?
What is the problem? Unfortunately, with the overhaul of combat, bugs also made their way onto the live servers of Black Desert. A particularly serious error means that damage in certain PvP situations is not applied correctly.
The developers explain in a post on playblackdesert.com:
We know that many of you want to try out new play styles after the combat update, but ensuring a stable gaming environment is our top priority. Therefore, we have made the difficult decision to temporarily suspend PvP content – including siege wars, conquest wars, the war of roses, and the red battlefield – until our next maintenance.
All affected players will receive compensation for the temporary suspension of the PvP modes. The next maintenance is scheduled for July 31, 2025 – it is expected to run from 10 AM to 2 PM.
A list of all known issues has also been published by the developers on playblackdesert.com. Note, for example, that you currently cannot dissolve an alliance if a fortress has already been built – as siege and conquest wars are currently not taking place.
What distinguishes the combat in Black Desert? The brutal action combat of the MMORPG feels wonderfully impactful, responsive, and satisfying. It is simply fun to send masses of enemies to the afterlife with the beautifully staged attack and spell combinations.
