The PvP MMORPG Camelot Unchained may not generate major headlines in the summer of 2019, but it does release new information and images every week. Fans of the game can soak up every detail. We give you an overview in a quick run-through.
What is Camelot Unchained? The MMORPG aims to follow in the footsteps of Dark Age of Camelot, focusing heavily on PvP.
You join one of the three factions and then fight against the other two. Enemy castles can be besieged and destroyed. PvE, on the other hand, plays a minor role in Camelot Unchained.
What is the current status of Camelot Unchained? The MMORPG is in beta, but testing can only occur at certain times. The MMORPG still lacks several important features.
A release still seems far off, even though the beta has been running for more than a year.
Siege Weapons and the Interface
What is currently happening in Camelot Unchained? Once a week, every Friday, a news article is released. It informs the community about current progress.
Each time, there is a summary of the week from the developers’ perspective, potential plans for beta tests, and new images of concepts or innovations in the game.
In this context, the new skill system for mages and the overhaul of the interface were presented.
What’s New with the Siege Weapons
In several news articles, the developers talked about their siege weapons and presented corresponding concepts. The factions will have access to the same arsenal, but the weapons visually differ:
- Arthurian
- Tuatha Dé Danann
- and Vikings
significantly. Additionally, the weapons come in different tiers, as the artwork from May 2019 shows:
Besides trebuchets and mortars, there are several other siege weapons, including battering rams and scorpions.
Further Innovations in the Interface
In June, additional images from the interface were presented. The initial focus was on the death and respawn screen.
These were adjusted to the current appearance and inform about which player dealt the final blow and with which ability it was executed.
How Castles are Evolving
What is happening with the fortresses? At least as important as the siege weapons are the locations being besieged.
The developers have repeatedly presented images of new gates, doors, or windows in recent weeks and months.
Developers Proud of the Doors
Particularly in the area of doors, the developers shared their enthusiasm with the players in June.
They proudly report about the code that allows the doors to open at the push of a button. This code is also designed to benefit other animated objects in the game.
In the video, fans saw different door types for the respective factions.
Concepts for Biomes and Creatures
In June and July, the developers presented concepts for the biomes and creatures of the world of Camelot Unchained in the weekly posts.
Some are supposed to contain more flora and fauna, while others appear somewhat sparser and less inhabited.
Biomes of the MMORPG Not Set in Stone
While the developers presented various ideas and concepts for the biomes, nothing is carved in stone yet. Much is still in flux and undergoing several phases of adjustment.
They also tend to take inspiration from reality, as this image confirms:
New Armor and Weapons
The latest issues of the community news once again highlighted new armor and weapons that have been gradually developed in concepts.
For instance, there are NPC designs for the race of Draugar, which have even been colored.
Safe Packaging for the Body
Among the latest models are armor pieces of the Arthurian. They are intended to protect them from fatal hits in battle.
These include armors for the chest and legs.
Weapons Directly from Their Own Body
For the Draugar, which we already saw colored, the developers have come up with a special feature. They designed the body parts in such a way that they can all be combined to quickly generate new NPCs.
Additionally, a concept was developed where the weapons grow directly out of the body of the Draugar.
Innovations in Animations as Well
Besides new concepts and images, the developers have also released videos showcasing new animations. Particularly, fighting and running have been recurrent focal points.
A video from June showed progress in fighting with the great sword:
Another video about Camelot Unchained focused on giants, which are significantly larger than the playable races.
Progress has definitely been visible in the PvP MMORPG in recent weeks and months. However, the development still seems to be dragging on for a while. But this is not unique to Camelot Unchained.
Currently, fans of MMORPGs need to be strong and may have to wait a long time for new games. However, some of them could finally manage to release in 2020:
