Since 2020, Baldur’s Gate 3 has been available in Early Access. Those who want can already buy and play the game at any time. However, in the latest community update, the developers strongly advise against it: it won’t bring anything anymore. You even risk ruining your enjoyment of the game.
How can I play Baldur’s Gate 3 already now?
- Baldur’s Gate 3 will be released on August 3rd for PC and on September 6th for PS5.
- On Steam, you can already play the Early Access version if you buy the game. It has been running since 2020, and back then, we played the multiplayer of the role-playing game for you.
- However, if you play there now, you will lose all your progress by release. The developers advise: stay away from it.
What’s included in Early Access? In the current version of Baldur’s Gate 3 on Steam, you can only play the first act of the game. However, all the races and the 12 classes presented are already available for selection.
For characters, you still don’t have the option to play one of the “Origins”. These are the characters with a predefined story. You have to create your own character. In the editor, you can play with customization options like appearance and backgrounds.
However, most of the content is still missing in the game. Even the first act is not fully complete in Early Access, as the developers explain in the latest community update. And they also clearly say: anyone who only wants to play now should refrain from doing so.
Developers advise: “Do not buy the Early Access version of Baldur’s Gate 3”
In the blog post, it says: if you start with Baldur’s Gate 3 now, it will gain you nothing. You cannot transfer your save because too much changes by the release. Some of the new content at release includes:
- more customization options
- class respec and multiclassing
- the last “Origin” character, a crazy murderer
- about 33% more content for Act 1, in which players have already invested up to 200 hours
If you still decide to buy Baldur’s Gate 3 now to experiment a bit, you at least get the pre-order bonuses. Early Access is treated as a pre-order and costs the same.
You will then receive an exclusive skin for your dice in the game, as well as some content inspired by the Divinity series, the soundtrack, and character sheets for Dungeons & Dragons. If you prefer to wait, you can play the full version on PC from August 3rd and on PS5 from September 6th.
