On October 20, 2025, various internet services were temporarily unavailable due to a global outage of Amazon Web Services (AWS). However, it was not just Steam or the PlayStation Network that were affected; there were also troubles with some beds.

What happened? On the morning of October 20, 2025, we and many others suddenly noticed that various websites and internet services, such as Steam, Amazon, Snapchat, the PlayStation Network, Fortnite, as well as Epic Games, Xbox, and Roblox were no longer accessible.
The reason was a global outage of Amazon Web Services (AWS), one of the largest providers of servers and services. Many internet offerings rely on this infrastructure. Even many services that one would not directly associate with AWS were affected, such as online banking from various banks.

What about the beds? What to do when the internet fails and you can’t play Roblox, Fortnite, or Battlefield 6 for hours as planned? Well, it wouldn’t be the first time that nine months after such an incident, there is a little baby boom. You understand.
This time, however, there was next stress with the beds, and that seemed to be directly related to the AWS outage. As dexerto.com reports, the owners of the “Eight Sleep” mattress toppers, which are said to cost around $2,000 each, were also affected.
Due to the outage, users found out the hard way that their expensive bedding did not have an offline mode and suddenly became very hot or froze in strange, certainly not back-friendly positions. Waking up in such a manner or being interrupted by whatever is certainly no fun.
One user explained that he woke up in a sauna; it was that hot. Another complained that his bed froze in a steeply inclined position (source: X). Fortunately, no one reported that a mattress actually caught fire. It seems no one was injured either.
Why did the failures occur? Eight Sleep’s products require a cloud connection to regulate temperature and capture the biometric data of the users. Due to the AWS outage, there was no access to the app to manage the water cooling or make position adjustments. Various beds overheated and/or got stuck.
How did the manufacturer respond? Matteo Franceschnetti, the CEO of Eight Sleep, apologized the next morning on X for the incident and announced measures to prevent such outages in the future.
