Before he became a star with Big Bang Theory, an actor starred in another series. There he was given a special honor that he later raved about.
Who is being talked about? Fans of Big Bang Theory of course know Kunal Nayyar. In the series, he plays Dr. Rajesh Koothrappali, known as Raj. He portrayed this role for twelve seasons and became a familiar face in the world of series. Even though he almost didn’t get it.
Those who were attentive could see the actor previously in other productions. Among other things, he appeared in another well-known series: Navy CIS. His role there is small, but Kunal Nayyar still positively remembers it to this day. The reason for this is curious.

Fake Beard and Beating from the Main Actor
Whom did Nayyar play? If you keep your eyes open, you can spot the actor in the fourth season of Navy CIS. In episode 12, which first aired in January 2007, Kunal Nayyar plays a terrorist.
His role is not particularly large. His character is merely an accomplice of the actual villain. As such, the actor wears a beard that suspiciously looks fake, which is due to the actor’s lack of facial hair.
Although the role was small, Nayyar was allowed to play in a scene with the series’ main actor, Mark Harmon. There was an encounter between the two, during which Harmon’s character did not treat the terrorist gently.
Kunal Nayyar recounted in a conversation with the Screen Actors Guild (via usatoday.com) about his beginnings as an actor, and how he was beaten by Harmon in the scene. The shoot was a lot of fun for him – he describes it as “the best experience of my life.”
Only a few months after this impressive experience on the set of Navy CIS, Big Bang Theory started. The series aired from September 2007 and ended only in 2019 after twelve seasons.
Kunal Nayyar had become a star through the long-running series full of nerds. His beginnings in other productions are likely known only to the hardest fans, while the mustache does the rest to obscure the actor’s appearance.
