In Monster Hunter Wilds you cannot always withstand all attacks from your prey. The solution: the Superman Dive or the thrust jump. This mechanic can save your life, and those who master it will become immortal.
What is the thrust jump feature? In the fight against all monsters, hunters can block attacks, dodge, or even perform a dramatic thrust jump to avoid damage.
The latter must be learned because if executed correctly, you can skillfully ignore entire attacks that can even be deadly. In experienced hands, this feature is the gateway to immortality, but how exactly does it work? We show you what you should know.
How to become immortal in Monster Hunter Wilds
How do I use the thrust jump correctly? To be able to use the thrust jump, you need to have your weapons holstered and run away from your target. Then press your dodge button once and you will perform the “Superman Dive”.
Even though this dive is often annoying when you accidentally engage, while you actually wanted to follow the target, the feature is essential for battles against tougher monsters. The dive makes you temporarily invincible.
The reason is the short, almost 3-second window during which you are invulnerable. During this time, the world around you may go to ruin, but you remain unscathed. Therefore, it is important to memorize the attack patterns of your hunted monster and know which attack you are dodging and which you are withstanding.
The best dodge window is just before you are about to be hit. Perform your dive in any direction and try to reposition yourself. To improve your dodging maneuver, you can also utilize the effect “Fate Jump” to extend your thrust jump distance when you leap towards the monsters. Talioth arm guards, for example, have this effect.
The thrust jump is particularly worthwhile for players who have no means to block attacks from enemies. Have you also used the jump often or are you rather a more aggressive player focused on taking every hit?
