Place 7: Durin III.
Durin III. lived in the Second Age and had a very good relationship with the Elves. He was one of the dwarves who received a Ring of Power – directly from the elf Celebrimbor. It was that ring which was later passed on to Thrór and Thráin.
As a wise and strong leader, Durin III. particularly proved himself during Sauron’s attacks on Eregion. Durin, the king of Khazad-dûm, sent his own troops to support the elves from Lothlórien in battle. This was gravely needed, as famous figures like Elrond were surrounded by enemies and the situation seemed hopeless. Through Durin’s careful efforts, the elves were able to escape – one can hardly imagine what would have happened without Elrond in Middle-earth.
