The MMORPG “Lord of the Rings Online” has been struggling with server issues for days. Daily, the developers inform about new downtimes – what’s going on?
Though Sauron may have been defeated in the films, Middle-earth now faces a whole new problem. Instead of a ring to bind them, to find them all, to bring them into the darkness and bind them forever, this time it is server issues that are causing trouble for Hobbits, Elves, and Dwarves.
Developers provide daily updates, but the issues persist
Here’s the problem: After the big wedding event began at the end of June the “Lord of the Rings Online” servers have been fluctuating for days, much like Gollum’s mood. It all started on Wednesday, July 15. The Arkenstone server closed its doors to contribute to the “health of the game environment”. For the same reason, the Brandywine server went offline shortly after.
Then things got confusing. Arkenstone reopened – but only until Brandywine also opened. Then Arkenstone had to be closed again:
Later that day, both servers went offline again – as well as Crickhollow. Already at that point, players complained about being suddenly kicked from the server.
But that was just the beginning. Not only did more servers like Gladden and Landroval join the issues, but a temporary reopening of the servers did not last long either.
In the following days, there were repeated openings and closures of the servers, often accompanied by further issues when the servers were open.
On Twitter, players can now track daily updates on the state of the servers. However, consistent uptime has not occurred recently. The latest status is that currently Arkenstone and Sirannon are unreachable:
Besides noting that issues in the data center are being investigated, the developers did not disclose the reasons. Therefore, players currently have no choice but to wait.
This is how the community reacts: The feedback is very mixed. While some thank for the work on the issues, others are frustrated by the constant downtimes. Especially since there were moments when it seemed like the problems were resolved, it is hard to see when the servers will truly be up and running again.
It is to be hoped that the issues will be resolved soon and that players can dive back into the world of Middle-earth. Normally, “Lord of the Rings Online” is considered one of the best free-to-play MMORPGs.
