Rank 8: Chrono Odyssey
Setting: Fantasy | Developer: Chrono Studio | Platform: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series | Status: Release planned for late 2025, delay possible due to recent tester feedback
Thanks to the closed beta in June 2025, it is now quite clear what Chrono Odyssey will be like as an MMORPG. The first project from Chrono Studio offers a mix of theme park and sandbox, with a major focus on PvE content for solo players and small groups of 3, 5, or 10 players (PvP is available but intended to be optional).
Although Chrono Odyssey is developed by a South Korean studio, the game differs significantly from many other representatives from this region:
- The character creation options do not have gender lock. You can freely choose your gender, no matter which class you want to play.
- The game does away with daily quests and pure mob grinding. The time of the players should be valued.
- The focus is clearly on PvE, with PvP being a mere optional aspect.
- The world setting is unusually dark, mixing fantasy with sci-fi and cosmic horror.
- In crafting or upgrading equipment and weapons, there are no random components that could feel punishing.
The 3 pillars of the player experience are supposed to be the huge world, the action-packed combat system, and the MMO elements.
While exploring the open world was very enjoyable in our test, the combat, classes, technology, and content still need quite a bit of work.
