In Borderlands 3 you can find a nasty weapon that is an Easter egg referencing a CS:GO blunder by Twitch streamer Summit1g. His mistake has become a well-known phrase.
Which streamer is it about? Jaryd “Summit1g” Lazar is a well-known face on TwitchTV. Thousands regularly tune into his roleplay streams in GTA Online. He has also provided some exciting moments in the pirate game Sea of Thieves.
Apparently, the developers of Borderlands 3 are also fans of the streamer, as a player recently found an Easter egg in the game that clearly references Summit1g.
What kind of Easter egg is this? On Twitter, user SmartGuy316 shared a picture of the weapon. He mentioned that he started his game and this grenade was simply in his inventory.
The grenade is called “Burning Summit” and has the tagline “Can we see some 1G’s in the chat?”, which is reminiscent of the streamer’s username.
In the video, you can see how the grenade works. After the “drop,” the thing explodes almost immediately and leaves a flame carpet. The ground around the player catches fire, and you either have to walk through it and take damage or avoid the fire.
This CS:GO fail by Summit1g is being mocked
The legendary fail: With this grenade, Gearbox pokes fun at the legendary moment Summit1g experienced during Dreamhack 2016. He was playing CS:GO for Team Splyce on the map Train.
In a match, Summit was the last living player for Splyce and was in a 1v1 against FugLy from Team CLG. He managed to take out FugLy and then just had to defuse the bomb. But on the way to the bomb, he confidently ignored the flaming carpet of a Molotov cocktail on the ground and walked through it. This cost him his last 40 hit points, and he died because of it. He likely wasn’t even looking at the screen on his way to the bomb, but rather at his team.
This allowed CLG to win the round, which was actually already secured for Splyce.
Even the tournament’s stream team was so sure that the round would be won that they switched away from the game action. The replay shows what happened.
