Rank 4: The Ecclesiarchy – The Only Humans Who Can Stand Against Space Marines
After the Commissars, you’ve probably heard the most about the Ecclesiarchy. The Church of the Imperium, also known as Adeptus Ministorum, are the guardians of the only permitted religion in the Imperium: the faith in the Emperor.
Accordingly, they fight against heretics and heresy wherever they are discovered and are especially a danger to the people of the Imperium themselves. This also serves to curb the spread of the cults of the four Chaos Gods.
However, the Ecclesiarchy also has one of the strongest elite units in the Imperium: the Adepta Sororitas, essentially the female counterpart to Space Marines with nearly the same strengths.
The “Sisters of Battle”, a part of the Sororitas, is the fighting arm of the Ecclesiarchy and uses completely insane weapons in their fight against enemies… such as assault cathedrals dropped from orbit onto the planet.
Although the Emperor himself never saw himself as a god and has always denied the claim that he is one, the current state of affairs is no longer so clear. Even one of his sons questions the statement: The new head of the Imperium in Warhammer 40,000 asks if the Emperor is a god, even though he should know better.
