Borderlands 4 should still not experience a strong sale 5 years after its release, at least so prophesied Chief Randy Pitchford. However, at the moment you can actually get the shooter cheaper.
What did Pitchford claim? In the past, Pitchford has not always been popular with fans of the shooter. This was due to controversial views, such as about the players’ budget. Now he is causing ridicule among some fans on Reddit with a new statement. Pitchford said:
It took over 5 years since the game’s release for such offers and Borderlands 3 to appear in console subscription programs. Take the opportunity while it lasts! And to manage your expectations: It will take even longer for something like this to happen again in the next cycle with Borderlands 4.
In June 2025, the Borderlands chief actually responded to a sale of Borderlands 3. Accordingly, it should take at least 5 years for such a sale or the addition to subscription services like Playstation Plus for the successor (see it on X).
Borderlands 4 is currently available at a lower price
What kind of sale is there now? The first sale for Borderlands 4 is already happening. The shooter is available on Steam and the Epic Games Store with a 20% discount. This means you only pay 56 € instead of 70 € for the standard version. The other editions are also 20% cheaper.
So if Borderlands 4 was too expensive for you on PC until now, you can get the shooter at a lower price now. And not just 5 years after the release. Unfortunately, there is (not yet) no price drop for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Why is his statement still correct? It may be that Pitchford was referring to the drastic discount of 95% and not generally to a sale. If so, he would probably be right because it will likely take time until such strong price reductions for the shooter occur.
That a game is eventually offered cheaper is normal. Some games like The Quinfall even offered their game after not even 2 months at a 90% discount. For Borderlands 4, there will likely be progressively stronger discounts over the next few years until Borderlands 4 reaches over 90% off.
