The randy Paladin Marcus is up to his antics in World of Warcraft. In Patch 8.1.5, he has apparently discovered a new fetish for scales …
Each expansion of World of Warcraft covers different themes in the game world, but one parallel runs through all expansions: the steamy romance novels.
What are the romance novels? Inscriptionists and rogues have likely come across the books that can be crafted or looted from enemies with pickpocketing many times. The books can be used to gain insight into excerpts from various dime novels (sometimes with illustrations), which mostly revolve around the protagonist Marcus.
Who is Marcus? Marcus is a paladin who roams the world of Azeroth and has a fling with just about everything that isn’t up a tree. Marcus seems to know no boundaries, as he not only has affairs with human women, Draenei, or elves of all kinds but also with undead, succubi, pandaren, or his squire finding their way to bed with him. We have already reported extensively about Marcus.
If you are particularly observant, you might even meet him on the Highlands, where he spices up the love life of a Tauren couple a little.
Marcus’s return in Patch 8.1.5: In Patch 8.1.5, it seems Marcus has his next adventure, as there are new quests for all crafting professions. Inscriptionists can receive an initial “teaser” about Marcus’s new romance. A Tortollan recounts the plot of his latest story.
There, Marcus sails the seas, gets ambushed by pirates, and plunges into the depths of the ocean. Later, he awakens on the coast of a large island and realizes that he has been rescued. “His wounds were bound with seaweed, and not far away, he could hear the most beautiful of voices softly humming a song.”
Of course, Marcus also has his charming pick-up lines again that have characterized him in earlier works:
“For a moment, I thought I had been rescued, but when I look into those eyes, I am obviously still lost at sea.”
Sometimes “melting” and “vomiting” are so closely related.
The dialogue with the Tortollan ends with a line that all fans of fan fiction can likely relate to:
“A naga and a human talking and flattering each other. That’s why reading fiction is so much fun, isn’t it?”
Cortyn says: I still hope to one day have an interview with the story writer who comes up with all the romance novels and probably has the most entertaining hours of his career doing so. I trust that Marcus will experience many more “adventures” that will then find their way into the game in written form. Because no matter what one might think of the individual WoW add-ons, Marcus has never disappointed – neither the readers nor his partners.
