On June 28, 2024, Square Enix released Patch 7.0 for the MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV. The accompanying graphic update makes the characters look really good. However, there is now a race that should not eat pizza anymore.
Why no more pizza for a race? The emote that allows a player character to eat pizza in Final Fantasy XIV is named the same and is actually quite harmless. When you use it, a slice of pizza appears in your character’s hand. They take a bite and chew happily, nodding away.
Since the graphic update with 7.0 for the new expansion Dawntrail, it seems that one selectable race has lost its appetite for pizza: Male Au Ra still take bites of their pizza, but they make grotesque faces while eating.
Here’s an example from Reddit:
In the end, they still give a thumbs up and smile. However, it seems that the fast food did not taste good after all. That’s probably how someone would react who doesn’t want to hurt the chef’s feelings.
There’s a graphic update, and suddenly cheerful bugs rain down
Are there more funny bugs? In fact, reports of harmless but entertaining graphic bugs are piling up. Here are a few examples:
- A skill from the “Dancer” class makes their weapons disappear and the character’s body rotate awkwardly. (via Reddit)
- Shiny hair highlights in Shadowbringers areas (via Reddit)
- Clipping Viera hair (via Reddit)
- Warriors are now their own weapon (via Reddit)
None of these issues appear to be game-breaking at first glance. However, that could certainly change. In fact, the developers are already working on several other bugs that are causing real problems.
What does the development team say? Recently, the director and producer of the game spoke up in a blog post. Naoki Yoshida specifically addressed performance issues with the Xbox version, new bugs in the endgame, and various unwanted graphic changes such as those related to the pizza emote.
Although the early access of Dawntrail has been quite smooth so far, it was to be expected that there would be bugs.
