The launch of Borderlands 4 is imminent! For many, it starts on Friday – but for some even today, on Thursday.
When does Borderlands 4 start? It depends on which platform you are playing. September 12 is officially listed as the release date for Borderlands 4 everywhere, but that is not universally true due to time zones and different start times. There is also a deviation here in the country.
Who gets to play first? PC players can already dive into the game today! Although the official release date for Borderlands 4 is September 12, PC players can start playing from 6:00 PM on September 11.
When do the consoles start? For the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, September 12 remains the date. It will start at 00:00. The Switch 2, on the other hand, won’t start until October, making the wait even longer.

Can I start earlier here? No, there is no early access, for example, for pre-order customers or similar.

What’s in Borderlands 4?
Borderlands 4 is the latest installment in the series, which actually offers a bit more with titles like Pre-Sequel or Wonderlands than just four spin-offs. You can find a ranking of previous Borderlands titles here.
Borderlands 4 functions as a sequel, but also as a good entry point into the series. The game features four new main characters: Vex, Amon, Rafa, and Harlowe. These four vault hunters are the ones you will send through the new world of Kairos to confront the evil timekeeper.
So there’s a lot new, and you don’t necessarily need prior knowledge from games 1 to 3. However, it certainly helps if you are already familiar with the Borderlands universe. After all, characters from the past, such as Moxxi, Zane, Amara, or our beloved robot Claptrap, make appearances again.
