Donkey Kong Bananza is getting a DLC pack at the Nintendo Direct, and the viewers on YouTube have plenty to say about it.
When the Switch 2 launched in June 2025, the excitement was huge, but aside from Mario Kart, Nintendo’s new handheld was still lacking in first-party titles. This changed in July with Donkey Kong Bananza, the first “real” reason to buy the Switch 2 – at least according to our colleagues at GamePro.
At the Nintendo Direct on September 12, 2025, a new paid DLC titled DK Island and Emerald Rush was announced for the game.
For fans who have already completed the main game, the DLC seems to come at just the right time, as they flooded the chat with so many messages that it was hard to keep up.

Hardly anyone had a DLC for the still relatively new title on their radar – Mario Kart was more likely to be expected. Some are even rumoring: Is this content that didn’t make it into the main game? Nevertheless, fans are excited to return to the game so soon.
What’s in it? Not much is known yet, but DK Island is apparently a new level, while Emerald Rush is a new mode in which the goal is to collect lots of emeralds – but that’s all you need to know for now, because the DLC is set to be released on Nintendo later today. Fans will be able to see for themselves soon.
On top of that, there’s also a free demo for the main game.
Update, 4:54 p.m.: The DLC is already available in the Nintendo eShop. The US version is priced at $19.99. The DLC is also available in the German store and is listed as a bundle with the main game for €89.98, so the expansion costs just under €20 in Germany as well.
Donkey Kong Bananza had already caused a stir in the run-up to its release. That’s because there’s one small but significant detail that sets this title apart from many modern games. Find out more at MeinMMO: The next big title for the Switch 2 is fascinating gamers because it’s tiny.
