In FIFA 20, a fresh trailer was shown at gamescom 2019. It features the story mode of Volta and cool skills.
This is the gamescom trailer: As part of the Opening Night of gamescom 2019, developers of FIFA 20 appeared to briefly talk about the biggest innovation: The Volta mode.
Afterward, a short trailer was presented, teasing the story mode in Volta.
We are embedding the trailer here – it is a recording uploaded by GameSpot:
Fine ball handling in the video
This is what you see in the video: The footage is an excerpt from a cutscene that you will see again in the Volta story mode of FIFA 20.
Two characters take a seat on a stage to watch a ball artist casually juggling with a ball, acrobatically swirling it around, revealing some pretty cool skills.
Meanwhile, one of the two spectators says: “Hey, how cool is that!” However, in the middle of the cutscene, the video ends and the Volta logo appears.

Cool, but more was expected: While the official gameplay trailer for Volta received overwhelmingly more upvotes than downvotes, this gamescom trailer has been accumulating thumbs down. Currently, nearly a third of the votes are negative ratings.
In the comments, many fans write that this looks pretty “nice”, the skills are intense, and the mode comes across as interesting, but they expected more for a gamescom presentation.
This trailer truly did not create a hype, as can be read on reddit. Compared to gamescom trailers from previous years, this one was boring. Here you can see the gamescom trailer for FIFA 19, which elaborately introduced the three heroes of the story mode.
In contrast, the announcement that FIFA 20 has new Bundesliga licenses was received much better yesterday.
What does the Volta story mode actually offer?
This is the Volta story: Volta brings virtual football back to the streets. On small fields, you compete in 3v3, 4v4, or 5v5 matches.
As a kind of introduction to the Volta world, the story mode can be seen, in which you create your own avatar and learn the basics of Volta.
What is the story about? Your avatar has a dream: He wants to be invited to the VOLTA WORLD Championships in Buenos Aires and win the “ultimate small-field prize” there. For this, he must build a team that will help him achieve this.
You will not be a professional footballer like Alex Hunter in The Journey, but a street football player.

It remains to be seen whether this is the only trailer that EA Sports shows for FIFA 20 during gamescom. More may come.
