For the MMO shooter The Division, Ubisoft has now rewritten some of the factions.
The world of tomorrow looks grim. A virus has put the former million-city New York into a state of emergency in Tom Clancy’s The Division. And yet, even in this world, like in a typical fantasy scenario, there are forces of good and forces of not-so-good.
In a post at Ubi-Blog, they now present:
The Player’s Allies
Among the most important allies of the player are other players who, like him, are “Agents of The Division“. These agents operate in sleeper cells and are trained for just such a case as the current one: What could be more logical than to join forces? But everyone can also set out on their own.
The “Joint Task Force” are somewhat like friendly NPCs in other games: They are firefighters, police officers, the National Guard, or medics trying to maintain civilization amid the chaos. But they are massively pressured by other forces and need your support.
The Residents of New York City are ultimately who it’s all about. Because they need to be saved. Even though you cannot expect support from them, you will recognize from their reactions whether you are doing well.
The Player’s Enemies
The mysterious Cleaners have a very similar goal as the players themselves: They want to bring order to the streets and control the virus. However, they do this with a flamethrower. They are psychopaths, as they say, who act on their own. They specifically orient themselves toward areas where the contamination level is highest and burn everything that is infected or could be infected.
The Rikers are prisoners from Rikers Island who managed to break free in the chaos. They see themselves as the un-crowned kings of New York City, disregarding the chaos around them. Yes, they often exacerbate it. These criminals owe society nothing and have a score to settle with the Joint Task Force.
