In The Division, the M1A Series 1 is one of the best weapons in the game. We outline reasons why this marksman rifle is superior to other snipers.
In Ubisoft’s MMO shooter, sniper rifles can be generally divided into two categories:
- High-damage sniper rifles with lower magazine size and fire rate (like the M44).
- Sniper rifles with lower damage, but large magazines and high fire rates. The reload speed is also higher (such as the SCAR-H).
According to Arekkz Gaming, the M1A Series 1 of high-end quality is the exception to this rule. This sniper cannot be clearly classified into a category – as it combines the best attributes of both classes.
Is the M1A the best sniper rifle in The Division?
The YouTuber and “The Division” expert Arekkz believes that the High-End First Wave M1A is the best sniper in the game. He cites three reasons:
- The M1A Series 1 has a solid magazine size (base value: 10)
- It has a high fire rate (base value: 300)
- Moreover, it has a “truck-like” impact

These base stats alone would currently make the M1A Series 1 the best sniper in the game, which is why every agent relying on sniper rifles should try it at least once.
There are several sources to obtain the M1A: Named enemies drop this weapon, such as Hornet in the Russian consulate. It can also occasionally be acquired as a blueprint. Currently, the DZ weapon dealer in the safe house of DZ03 sells a high-end SOCOM M1A.
With the right mods, you can further enhance the M1A Series 1. An extended magazine, which allows up to 19 shots, is especially recommended. This way you can keep enemies under continuous fire.
The talents of the M1A Series 1 are random. Watch out for the following useful talents:
- Balanced: The weapon achieves maximum precision faster when shouldered. This is the most important talent, as it allows the already low recoil of the M1A to be almost neglected. This allows you to fire numerous headshots in a row, as the weapon hardly deviates.
- Brutal: Headshot damage is increased by x%.
- Deadly: Critical hit damage is increased by 10-30%.
The M1A Series 1 excels in both PvE and PvP. As a sniper rifle, it is especially useful for long-range combat; you can take out enemies from a distance before they even realize what is happening. However, according to the YouTuber, the M1A is also valuable in critical situations when you are overwhelmed by enemies: Thanks to the high fire rate and stability, you can pump it full of bullets at close and medium range.
If you want to wander through the post-apocalypse of The Division with this currently best sniper rifle, you should try to obtain it in the near future. Massive has already announced weapon balance changes, which will likely come with the May update. Which weapons and weapon types will be revised is still unknown. However, many agents would be surprised if the M1A were not nerfed.
Furthermore, the outstanding talent Balanced will be adjusted with update 1.2, as confirmed by community developer Yannick Banchereau.
