Detail 5: Missing person posters
There are many posters and flyers on the walls of The Division. Additionally, there are also 2326 missing persons notices glued throughout Manhattan. These create a grim atmosphere.
Detail 6: Intelligent destruction
One thing that often adds excitement in shooters is the destruction. What happens if I shoot this object? In The Division, the answer is: it is destructed quite realistically. At least in some cases. In the game, LCD screens react the same way as they would in reality if you were to shoot one.
This is what happens when this billboard is destroyed:
Detail 7: This is what the end of the world would look like for New York
In The Division, a deadly virus crippled the city on “Black Friday”. Manhattan was the epicenter of this viral attack.
The supply routes into and out of the city run along gas stations in Manhattan, which makes perfect sense. This is how a city would be cordoned off and emergency supplies would be routed.
This scenario is based on real research. According to Associative Creative Director Julian Gerighty, the consequences of this virus outbreak are based on the 2001 US government disaster simulation called “Dark Winter”.
Detail 8: Here a car, there a car…
In Manhattan from The Division, there are over 22,300 vehicles on the streets, in 493 variations. The cars in the game are not random at all. The team from Massive conducted intelligent research on which cars are mainly found in New York and incorporated their style and color into the game. Thus, the mix of vehicles in post-apocalyptic New York should be very accurate.
Of course, you will also find some buses that were supposed to be used for mass evacuations.
On the next page, we continue with garbage, stickers, and a special tree.
