One of the most well-known brands of Sony is Horizon from Guerrilla. In the video games, Aloy fights her way through a world full of machine creatures. Tencent, the owner of Riot Games, the developer of League of Legends, had a similar setting in mind for a game on Steam. But this had consequences.
What was the problem? Tencent, together with developer Polaris, introduced the new game Light of Motiram.
- It was planned as an open-world survival game with crafting elements
- There were supposed to be mechanical creatures living in nature
- In an initial image, there was a character with red hair looking down at mechanical giant deer
If some of these points sound familiar, it’s no surprise. The title resembles the Horizon series from Guerrilla in description and appearance. Therefore, accusations quickly emerged that Light of Motiram had no shame in copying from the Horizon series.
Sony has also taken notice of the game, which was originally set to launch on Steam and in the Epic Games Store. Now there is an agreement that turns out to be rather negative for the creators behind Light of Motiram.

What are the consequences now? A recent court document reveals that there was a legal dispute over Light of Motiram. However, the case is now finally closed.
The document indicates that there was a confidential out-of-court settlement. Tencent must cease marketing for their video game. There will be no more advertising or public tests for the title.
The game has also been removed from Steam and the Epic Games Store. According to SteamDB, the game no longer exists. The document itself never mentions an official cancellation, but the confidential settlement and immediate removal from sales platforms suggest that Light of Motiram in its current form will never be released.
What does this mean? Although the court documents do not clarify how Light of Motiram will proceed, there are really only two options:
- Light of Motiram will be modified behind closed doors to ensure it no longer resembles Horizon
- The game will be completely canceled and abandoned
What exactly will happen remains to be seen. But players can look forward to another title from the Horizon universe, one way or another.
