In the upcoming autumn season 2025, fans are particularly looking forward to an anime. One Punch Man will finally continue with Season 3. However, the director is confident that Season 3 will not reach the level of Season 1 again.
What is the big problem with One Punch Man? Season 1 was celebrated by many fans for its grand animations. But for Season 2, the animation studio changed from Madhouse to J.C.Staff. Consequently, there were many quality drops in the anime:
- The fight scenes have less detail and appear less dynamic
- The character designs fluctuate in their proportions and details
- Metallic surfaces, like those of Cyborg Genos, suddenly have an inappropriate shine effect
Additionally, the focus shifted from protagonist Saitama more towards the introduction of new characters and the development of the antagonist Garou. Fans therefore hope that this will change for Season 3, as the anime is one of the most anticipated continuations (see MyAnimeList).
Another major problem for some viewers is that the director has changed again. They hold onto the fact that he has made some Hentais in the past (via Reddit). However, director Shimpei Nagai now speaks out and explains that Season 3 will indeed not be as good as Season 1.
Director knows that One Punch Man will not be as good as before
What is the reason? On X.com, Nagai justifies himself that Season 3 will probably not be as good as Season 1. He writes that all his heart and soul will be invested in the season and that the reason lies with the structure of the animation studio itself:
[…] It will probably not reach the first season. But the film is marked by the persistence and ingenuity of the creators. Please at least accept that. Nowadays, there are many companies financed by large corporations. A large part of the talent has been attracted by these companies. But as I always say, I want to support JC Staff, which is committed to improving working conditions and promoting its employees. Please stop with the harassment and the persistent questions that I cannot answer due to confidentiality agreements. I sincerely ask you.
J.C.Staff does not receive the funding like other, larger animation studios, but has better working conditions.
However, the statement does not rule out that Season 3 could still be better than Season 2. Nagai has previously tweeted showing that he is doing everything possible to make Season 3 a big success. He is even sacrificing sleep for this.
When does Season 3 come out? One Punch Man starts on October 5, 2025, with a recap of Season 2. The anime will then be available shortly after its release in Japan on Crunchyroll.
