The shift of the long-awaited and simultaneously feared GTA 6 caused mixed reactions among players and game developers, most of whom were rather disappointed. However, for a few individuals, this announcement was worth a proper celebration.
Which team celebrated the delay of GTA 6? The team behind the upcoming Ghost of Yotei from Sucker Punch was one of the few studios for which the delay of GTA 6 was the best news they could imagine. While other studios are anxious about their own release dates that could face fierce competition from the giant’s delay, the developers of Ghost of Yotei experienced quite the opposite.
Before the delay, GTA 6 was targeted for late 2025, which could have overlapped with the release of Ghost of Yotei on October 2, 2025. But now, Rockstar decided to wait until May 26, 2026 for the release – allowing Sucker Punch’s open-world adventure to proceed in peace.
This caused such joy within the team that, according to their own statement in exchange with MinnMax (via YouTube), is still felt.

The delay of GTA 6 not only caused relief, but also wet and joyful euphoria
How does a team member express their feelings about the announcement from Rockstar? The co-creative director of Ghost of Yotei Nate Fox explained to MinnMax that the announcement of the delay of GTA 6 triggered such euphoria that the team had to celebrate extensively at first.
When asked by MinnMax if the studio popped champagne corks after the announcement, Fox simply replied: “We’ve all been hungover for several months. It was a great day” (exact timing on YouTube).
What makes their reaction so special? Sucker Punch was lucky that the delay of GTA 6 moved the release away from their own, rather than pulling it closer. Other studios were anxious about receiving such a long-awaited game like GTA 6 as a competitor to their own game and were even willing to delay their own projects.
For this reason, they are just some of the few that can be so happy about the shift of the title as they now feel “safe”.
GTA 6 will be released on May 26, 2026, as long as it is not delayed again. However, that seems unlikely, explains a former developer from Rockstar, who is very sure about that.
