The action MMO The Day Before was supposed to be released in March but has moved its release to November 10, 2023. Many players were skeptical beforehand about whether the game could keep its promises. The reason for the latest delay leaves many even more doubtful.
The Day Before is a gaming surprise bag. From the outside, everything looks decent, a kind of The Division meets DayZ, with survival elements and high-quality graphics.
However, whether there is a cheap toy contained in the surprise bag that ends up in the trash or a cool addition for the toy box – that cannot be said at this time. Many players are skeptical whether the small studio can keep the big promises.
Now there has been another delay, and the reasons for it are unlikely to foster more trust in the title. The 9-month delay is explained by copyright issues.
One of the few trailers for the game, which was supposed to be released in February, you can watch here:
The Day Before: Release likely not until November 10, 2023
How do the developers explain the delay? On Twitter, the developers of the studio Fntastic posted a statement:
Tweet Translation: “Dear fans. Just before the release, Steam blocked our game page at the request of a private individual. The reason was the name ‘The Day Before’. As you know, our game was announced in January 2012. At the time of the announcement, the game brand ‘The Day Before’ was available. After the announcement, the aforementioned individual registered the game brand ‘The Day Before’ in the USA before us.”
“What happens now? We were previously unaware of the existence of these claims. We only learned about it on January 19, 2023, when we received the complaint, requesting us to contact him [the individual]. Now we know the circumstances of the incident and will resolve everything.”
“Actually, we wanted to release a longer gameplay video at the end of the month, but we have to clear up the problem beforehand. We will post a video on it as soon as possible.”
“As a result, we made the difficult decision to postpone the release to November 10, 2023. We understand that this may be disappointing for our fans. However, we want to ensure that we release the best possible game.”
“Our focus remains 100% on the game and how we can provide you with the best game possible. Thank you, and we hope for your support. Best regards, MYTONY and FNTASTIC.”
The developers explain the delay of about 9 months with copyright issues.
Can that be true? It seems suspicious. Not only because it was discovered so close to the release. The developers claimed shortly after the disappearance of the Steam page that it was due to a bug on Steam. However, no other games were affected.
Only later did the letter come that referred to the copyright issues.
The change list here in the tweet shows that the screenshots and trailers were manually removed from the Steam page.
What do fans say about this? The Day Before had already issues with credibility even before the latest delay. The reactions to the delay also reflect this:
- @G5ToxicKing: “Wow, that seems very suspicious to me. I’m out, have fun with it.”
- @hall_loue: “Delayed due to copyright of the name? Are you sure there is no other reason?”
- @PlaidM00se: “I’ll see all of you here in November again, for the next planned delay.”
One can sense in the comments that the trust of players and fans is continuing to wane. It remains uncertain how things will proceed with The Day Before. However, this action has certainly not done the title any favors.
