Just a few days after the release of Season 7, there is a new OP build in Diablo 4. This time from the class no one expected: Druid. However, it seems that no planned interaction is the reason for the strength – or at least not just that.
What kind of build is this?
- The Cataclysm Druid is one of the S-Tier builds in the Tier List of Diablo 4 Season 7.
- The build utilizes the namesake Ultimate Cataclysm and various interactions to strengthen it.
- Since release, Druids have been considered one of the weaker or even the weakest class, which has always been treated poorly. However, their rise in Season 7 is not solely due to buffs.
What makes the Cataclysm Druid so strong? As a Cataclysm Druid, you deal guaranteed critical hits and overwhelm damage. Both are already strong multipliers in themselves, but with the new Witch Powers and items, the Cataclysm gets even stronger.
The trick of the build is called “snapshotting.” This means: you stack as many buffs as possible to enhance the next use of Cataclysm. Then you maintain the skill until the map is finished. However, the cooldown must be sufficiently reduced.
With this build, multiple millions, maybe billions of damage points are planned. However, Diablo expert Rob shows in a video that the damage continues to scale upwards and apparently has no end.
In a clip, Rob finally shows that the Cataclysm build can inflict negative damage (via YouTube). It shows -9 trillion (a 9 followed by 18 zeros) damage, which is obviously not intended.

Update: The issue has now been resolved. According to the patch notes, the infinite scaling was due to a bug with the Witch Power Willensstärke

Blizzard only fixes bugs when they interfere with the game
Druids were the undisputed masters of the Tier List for the first while – but only due to the bug. Blizzard has the philosophy of only fixing bugs during a season when they affect the player experience of other players or the performance.
For this reason, an OP build of the Spiritborn in Season 6 remained strong until the end.
On the other hand, Blizzard had already fixed a similar bug with negative damage before. However, we cannot say how much the bug affected performance.
The strongest build in Season 7 without obvious bugs is currently the Blood Wave Necromancer. If you want to stick with the Druid, the Tear and Ripping builds are suitable. You can find all top builds in our Tier List with the strongest builds for Diablo 4 Season 7.
