Steel Hunters should have been the mech shooter for fans eager to battle other players with giant robots. The game launched in Early Access on Steam, but just a few months later, the studio announced some sad news – the service will be discontinued.
What is Steel Hunters? The developers of World of Tanks, Wargaming, created a new game for their collection: Steel Hunters. This game again revolves around war machines battling each other. But this time, they are not tanks or ships, but mechs.
Players can choose a mech class before starting a round, customize them cosmetically, and then head into battle. The gameplay is built on PvPvE, primarily featuring extraction and battle royale elements.
Essentially, it was like Armored Core with a focus on PvP, without the ability to customize your mech. The game launched in April with a free Early Access on Steam. However, after this ended, the developers spoke up and announced that Steel Hunters will be completely discontinued in October.
Interest was too low
What was the reason for the decision? In the official blog post from Wargaming, the developers thanked all the fans (Source: store.steampowered.com) who actively participated in the battles. Unfortunately, they announced that their latest game will be taken offline on October 8 and will no longer be supported.
The reason for this was the lack of interest from players. According to the studio, “further development is not sustainable,” which is why support will be discontinued. However, to allow fans to say goodbye, the servers will remain operational for another 90 days.
Additionally, all hunters, including those that have not yet been released, will become playable. The feature to create custom matches will also be implemented so fans can still have fun until the game ends. Finally, there will also be a farewell tournament. However, there are still few details regarding this.
