On December 17, 2025, it will finally be time and Fallout will launch into Season 2. Fans can look forward to the return of beloved characters from the series. This includes the Ghoul. However, despite the popularity of the role, the lead actor has never played the games.
On December 17, 2025, Fallout will begin Season 2, with fans able to enjoy a new episode weekly. Alongside Lucy and Maximus, Cooper Howard, better known as the Ghoul
, is also returning and is on a road trip with Lucy.
Walton Goggins as the Ghoul is one of the most popular characters in the series, yet the actor has never played the associated video games. There is a good reason for this, as he revealed in an interview with GameStar.
This world feels so real to me
What does Goggins say about the games? In an interview with GameStar Plus (Paywall), Valentin Aschenbrenner spoke with Walton Goggins about various aspects related to the upcoming season. He also asked the actor if he has tried the games after Season 2.
He declines and explains that he still hasn’t gotten around to it because he was traveling for almost a year. When everything is over, he means the series itself, he wants to tackle the games, albeit hopefully in a few years.
However, he also doesn’t believe that they would help him with his role:
But I am part of this world and this world is so real to me – so complete, so well-developed, so three-dimensional. Maybe the game version of this world would only make me think about it in a way I don’t want to when I’m in the Ghoul’s outfit.
What does that mean? Since Fallout is not an explicit adaptation of a specific game or characters, the Ghoul is also not a pre-existing character. It was created specifically for the series and will likely be significantly shaped by Goggins. If he were to watch the games, it might be that he suddenly perceives his character very differently.
Since the series only takes place in the world of Fallout, it can take more liberties and create its own characters that did not exist before. According to Goggins, one does not need to have the intention of making fans happy: I don’t believe that you tell any story to please anyone except yourself. And that’s the only true benchmark you can have, isn’t it?
Unlike the first season of Fallout, the second season will accompany us much longer, as the episodes are to be released weekly.
