The community of the MMORPG RIFT invites new and old players to check out the MMORPG again, providing the perfect opportunity for a fresh start in an MMORPG.
What kind of game is this? RIFT is a theme park MMORPG and one of the many former “WoW-killers” from the early 2010s. Many of the elements resemble WoW, such as quest hubs, dungeons, raids, and PvP battlegrounds. However, the MMORPG differs significantly in two ways: the dynamic class system and the world events.
The world events are called “Rifts” and are also the namesake of the MMORPG. They are a kind of dimensional portal through which elemental creatures invade the game world. Players are notified via a message and can spontaneously participate in the battle against the creatures.
This leads to huge battles, often followed by invasions, where entire regions are overrun by enemies and must be repelled by the player base.
How does the class system work? The flexible class system is another difference from World of Warcraft. RIFT offers great build variety enabled by complex skill trees. Thus, players do not choose a fixed class but rather a calling such as warrior, cleric, rogue, or mage, each providing a whole range of talent trees.
For example, a mage can become a fire DPS “Pyromancer,” but also join the battle as an “Elementalist” with elemental pets. Respeccing is possible anywhere. Players can switch between saved builds at any time outside of combat and can change roles from DPS to tank or healer as needed.
Community event revitalizes the game
What is this event? The RIFT community has decided to start its own event, completely independent of the developers. They want to give new and returning players the chance to experience the MMORPG together from the start.
Under the name “Rift Fresh Reroll,” players will come together on November 8 to replay the MMORPG from the beginning, answer questions, and later experience the raids together in beginner-friendly groups.
The MMORPG can be easily downloaded for free on Steam. Optionally, there are some DLCs and add-ons available for purchase that expand the content of the game. The popular server Deepwood is where most players are currently playing.
On Reddit, there is also more information and a link to a community Discord where beginners can ask questions about the game and join one of the beginner-friendly raid groups.
That a MMORPG community creates its own event without the involvement of the developers is rare. Especially for fans of New World, this event could be a great opportunity for a fresh start in an extensive MMORPG. For those who think that RIFT is over, they are mistaken: It has been quiet for a long time about one of the best “failed WoW-killers,” but now it is back with a new team at gamescom
