Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang explains in an interview that he works 7 days a week. Even when he watches a movie, he cannot forget about work.
In a conversation with Stripe founder Patrick Collison on YouTube, Jensen Huang explained to his conversation partner that he is even occupied with work when he is resting or watching a movie. “When I’m not working, I think about work,” he says.
Nvidia is considered one of the most valuable companies in the world today and is worth as much on the market as Amazon and Meta combined. The company has especially benefited from the AI boom. For Jensen Huang, Nvidia graphics cards are essential for the AI boom.
However, to make his company the most valuable firm in the world, he had to make some compromises. This includes not having a real work-life balance in his daily life. In the interview, he told his conversation partner (via Fortune.com):
I work from waking up until going to bed. I work seven days a week. When I’m not working, I think about work (…) I watch movies, but I don’t remember them because I think about work.
And he added that he wants to transform Nvidia into a giant AI: One of his biggest dreams is for every area of his company to use AI intensively. After that, he could still think about a better work-life balance:
I want to make NVIDIA into one giant AI. How great would that be? And then I finally have work-life balance.
This behavior of strongly combining work and leisure seems to be common among managers and executives. A 59-year-old manager explains in an interview why he does not need a real work-life balance: Because he does not separate work and leisure, he skillfully combines both. This is reminiscent of the words of the Nvidia CEO: “I do not distinguish between work and life” – A 59-year-old manager explains why he does not need a real work-life balance
