The brave warriors of Over-Earth currently have a mission in Helldivers 2 that particularly suits a perk, yet they absolutely refuse to use it.
What is the current mission? The general order for the Helldivers is currently to defend the planets Turing and Achernar Secundus. At the same time, players must collect 30 million rare samples.
These samples can be found on various planets and are hidden off-mission all over the map. To secure the samples, players need to escape with them and bring them to safety. If a Helldiver dies, they drop the sample container which must be picked up again by themselves or their comrades. However, a perk actually makes this task much easier.

Perfect Suitability, but Weak Perk
Which perk makes it easier? The perk “Sample Scanner” is actually perfect for the Helldiver’s general order. It gives Helldivers a 15% chance to receive double samples.
With it, players would reach their goal 15% faster and thus complete the developers’ mission quicker. However, the players are only lukewarm about the perk.
What do the players say about it? The Helldivers clearly state why they don’t want to use the perk. It is simply too weak for them. On Reddit, they write:
- Stale_t0ast47: “Because the booster only has a 15 percent chance of doing anything.”
- Curious_Freedom6419: “15 % chance to double your samples. Honestly, Arrowhead should raise the chance to 50 % to make it worth taking.”
- TheChadStevens: “Because you’d have to leave behind one of the four good boosters for what, an average 15 % increase? And it won’t even be a 15 % increase compared to normal gameplay, since not taking the good boosters will probably result in slower and fewer mission completions.”
- Illogical_Saj: “If this thing highlighted samples near you on the map, it would have been perfect.”
Can the Helldivers fulfill the order even without the perk? Yes, currently it seems that the Helldivers can complete the mission within the time limit even without the 15% more samples. As of July 31, 2025, at 3:30 PM, they have already collected more than 36% of the samples (via hd2galaxy.com), and that in just over 24 hours.
Until the mission expires, players still have plenty of time and are expected to even finish a day early if the pace continues.
That the players already received help from the developers with the perk before the start of the mission is unusual.
