Soldier Boy is no longer a loser
In the series of The Boys, Soldier Boy has probably become one of the biggest fan favorites since season 3. This is likely due to the performance of Jensen Ackles, who lends his coolness to the Captain America knockoff. In the comics, however, the character is quite different; he is downright a loser
.
There were 3 Soldier Boys: The first was quite unsuitable and killed his entire team with a single decision, and the second Soldier Boy is relatively unknown. The third leads Team Payback in the present, even if Stormfront is in the background at the top. He wants to become a member of the Seven but is a coward who does whatever Homelander tells him.
The series version not only has significantly more presence; it also presents a contrast to Homelander. Soldier Boy knows how powerful he is, yet unlike Homelander, who wants to be feared and loved by the whole world, Soldier Boy just wants to enjoy his life. For that, he relies on alcohol, women, and drugs.
As with Ryan, Soldier Boy creates a father-son dynamic, from which especially Homelander benefits.
