Call of Duty: Black Ops 7
What kind of game is this? Black Ops 7 is the latest installment in the Call of Duty series. It features a campaign that can be played solo or cooperatively with up to 4 friends, a PvE extraction mode declared as the endgame of the campaign, the classic COD multiplayer with various weapons, modes, and maps, as well as a turn-based zombie mode. All wrapped up in a futuristic setting with wall jumps as a new addition to the continued omni-movement.
Why this rank? The main reason: Because the competition has simply been a bit better this year.
- The story of the campaign is the major weakness and barely resembles a Black Ops – instead of a spy thriller, there are hallucinations with bizarre locations and battles against fantasy enemies, like giant plants and raging giants.
- The campaign, even when played solo, has an online requirement and simultaneously does away with save points (checkpoints) and a pause function.
- The zombie mode is good and features a very elaborate Easter egg, but lacks the truly good maps from Black Ops 6, and with only one launch map, the mode quickly becomes monotonous – even if the map is indeed huge.
The major strength of the latest Call of Duty is the multiplayer, and I truly believe that Black Ops 7 is much better in PvP than many critics claim. The movement is fun, the maps are better than in the predecessor, the SBMM is partially weakened, the aim assist for controllers has been lightly nerfed, and the lobbies finally remain after a match ends.
Is Black Ops 7 worth the high purchase price? Phew, difficult. But you can definitely have fun with the game, especially through the wide variety of different game modes. If I’m currently annoyed with the multiplayer, I just shoot some zombies.
