Before WoW existed, Everquest dominated the landscape of theme park MMORPGs. Everquest was released in 1999 and is considered the father of MMORPGs alongside Ultima Online. In June 2024, Everquest and Everquest 2 will host an event with an entry fee that will leave people astonished.
What kind of games are these?
- Everquest and its successor Everquest 2 are classic fantasy MMORPGs with a focus on PvE and group content.
- Everquest is considered a clear inspiration for World of Warcraft: Many of the key developers of WoW were active players of Everquest.
- Even though these MMORPGs are somewhat dated today and there is a wait for Everquest 3, they are still played and developed. In December 2023, “Larion’s Song” was released as the 31st expansion pack for Everquest.
Flippyfest is meant to celebrate the Everquest community
What kind of event is this? The ironic thing is: No one really knows.
The developer of Everquest, Daybreak Studio, has announced a community event for Everquest in June 2024 that can be attended live and digitally. The event is called “Flippyfest”.
It is similar to BlizzCon:
- Anyone purchasing a digital ticket for $50 to $250 can view the contents and receive mounts, pets, and skins.
- But there is also an “event for people who want to be on-site.” This will take place at an undisclosed location in San Diego on June 14 and 15. Participation costs $1,499, about €1,383, almost twice as much as for the luxury edition of BlizzCon.
The developers state:
“While the specific panels and activities are still a secret, you can expect this two-day event to be filled with engaging content tailored to the EverQuest® and EverQuest II communities. From deep dives into the game’s history and discussions to plenty of opportunities to interact with the game teams, it will be something every EverQuest®/EverQuest II fan will love. You will also have the chance to collect autographs from the teams to get your favorite souvenirs and loot items!”
How are the reactions to the price? The site massivelyop has summarized some very nice fan reactions. Such as:
- “Damn, that’s more expensive than Taylor Swift”
- “For $1500, I’d rather get free Everquest for the rest of my life.”
- Another user simply concludes: “Oh, just screw off.”
Well then.
