The Division
Ubisoft’s online shooter The Division features the Dark Zone. In this special area of the game world, open PvP takes place. This means that anyone who ventures into this zone can be attacked by teammates at any time.
This is a mix of PvE and PvP – players can loot items in the Dark Zone but must extract them by helicopter to actually keep them. Here comes the PvP aspect into play, as these looted items can be taken as loot by enemy players if they eliminate the original owner of the item. Interestingly, it is even possible to be betrayed by your teammates. This has often been highlighted as a special aspect of the “Dark Zone”.
There have now been a number of new developments in PvP, including the Rogue 2.0 system:
- It is no longer possible to accidentally go rogue in the Dark Zone. There is no more friendly fire. You must announce your intention beforehand so that other agents can prepare for an impending attack.
- You deactivate your manhunt status at a random location in the Dark Zone. In return, you receive reward boxes that contain exotics and secret gear sets.
Additionally, the new PvP mode “Skirmish” has been introduced:
- There are no NPCs and no large maps for the fights to occur in.
- The game mode is a simple 4-v-4 team deathmatch: the team that achieves a certain number of kills first or has the most kills within a certain time wins.
- Fights take place on three PvP-focused maps.
- It is important to defend strategically valuable locations together with teammates.

PvP is an integral part of the online shooter. However, if you do not want to participate, you do not have to.
