Eiichiro Oda is the mangaka of One Piece. He has now drawn a new picture for a special that was for many fans the best “episode” of the anime – even though it is not part of the official story.
What kind of picture is it? In the Reddit forum, a user shares a drawing of One Piece that officially comes from Oda. The authenticity can be recognized by his signature in the lower left corner. The picture shows Nami holding a letter. Next to her stands the girl who is the protagonist from One Piece: Fan Letter.
In the special, unfortunately, the girl never got to hand her fan letter to Nami. Instead, she helped the Straw Hat crew escape from the Marines. Therefore, Oda drew an alternative scenario here that many fans probably wished for as an ending for the actual anime.
What do fans say about it? In the comments, many fans feel sorry that we still don’t know what the girl’s name actually is. Many joke that her names could be “Fan Letter Girl” or “Girl D. Fan.”
Others are simply happy that the girl finally managed to deliver her letter. One user writes that the drawing is the cutest thing he has ever seen on this planet. Other users agree and say they love the picture.
On X, there are similar comments on a tweet by One Piece insider pewpiece. Some users write that they finally met and there is justice for the nameless girl. With the picture, one of the biggest wishes of the fans seems to have been fulfilled.
Nami finally receives her fan letter
Which special is the drawing from? In One Piece: Fan Letter, the events from the Marineford arc and the reunion of the Straw Hat crew are shown again – but from the perspective of other, unknown characters.
Many of the shown characters are fans of the Straw Hat crew. There is even a Marine officer who has a secret weakness for Tony Chopper.
The special is about as long as a normal episode of One Piece. Immediately after the release, the anime reached number 2 on the list of the best animes of all time (via MyAnimeList). By now, it has settled comfortably in 7th place with a still above-average rating.
Following the huge success of the special, another spin-off was released as an anime. However, that was not well received by the fans and can only be seen on social media: One Piece gets a new special that sounds like a bad fan fiction: “This ruins the reputation of the anime”
