Fans of “The Witcher” can look forward to it. Soon there will be new material about the Witcher Geralt. After a long wait, author Andrzej Sapkowski has finished a new novel.
What kind of book is this? The video games and the Netflix series based on “The Witcher” all derive from the novels by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. There have been nine books so far.
- The last part, “Time of Storms”, was published in 2013.
- In 2018, Sapkowski announced that a new volume was to be released.
- Now, the new part is finished, the author tells in an interview (via Chimères).
By the way, Witcher fans have been waiting almost as long for a sequel as fans of “Game of Thrones”. The last part of George R.R. Martin’s fantasy epic was released in 2011. However, the notorious sequel “Winds of Winter” is still pending to this day.
“A prequel or a sidequel”
What is the new book about? The new novel will again revolve around the Witcher Geralt of Rivia. However, the main story is supposed to be concluded. Already in 2018, Sapkowski stated (via YouTube):
The saga is over. So if I write something in the Witcher universe again, which I intend to do, then it would probably be something like a prequel or a sidequel. No sequel.
Such a prequel would not be unusual for the Witcher universe either.
Which parts are there so far? Only five of the nine published books deal with the main story, which is also referred to as the “Geralt Saga”. In addition, there are several volumes of short stories that mostly recount Geralt’s past.
The most recent part, “Time of Storms”, also takes place in the past. It deals with future events of the Geralt saga somewhat more loosely and even anticipates some of them. It is likely that the new part will go in this direction as well.

What happens next? Whether further parts are planned after the publication of the new novel is not yet known. In the interview, Sapkowski says:
We will see how it goes on. No one can say.
When will the new book be released? The new Witcher book is supposed to be released in Poland by the end of this year. An English translation is planned for early 2025. When a German translation will be released is still unknown.
The fourth season of the Witcher Netflix series is also expected in 2025. This will be the first season in which Liam Hemsworth, instead of Henry Cavill, will take on the role of the famous Witcher. In the first teaser, we see how that could look. However, many fans are not convinced: Netflix shows teaser for Season 4 of The Witcher, but fans complain about Liam Hemsworth as “Geralt for the poor”
