The developers of New World must respond to the dwindling player numbers and do so long before the MMORPG is even shut down.
What is the status of New World? After Amazon Games Studios decided to end the development of their own MMORPG due to significant layoffs, New World immediately lost many players. In our survey, only a small portion still wanted to play the MMORPG further.
It looks similar on Steam, as player numbers plummeted sharply after the announcement. So much so that the developers now need to respond with a change.

Server mergers due to player decline
What measures are the developers taking now? The developers of New World have looked at the new reality of lower player numbers and made the decision to merge several servers. They announce the following mergers on X.com:
- Saba → Aries (EU)
- Fae → Nysa (EU)
- Harmonia → Bifrost (EU)
- Empi → Valhalla (US-East)
- Hudsonland → Pangea (US-East)
The mergers will take place on November 6, 2025, at 7:00 PM in Germany. Those who have an account or character on one of the affected servers do not need to do anything and will be automatically moved with all their belongings.
Those who prefer to switch to a different server than the one mentioned can still do so until the automatic server merge.
Why are there still server mergers at all? While New World is already considered dead by many, the developers plan to keep the MMORPG running throughout 2026. Although there will be no new updates from the developers, the MMORPG will remain playable at least until January 1, 2027.
When exactly New World will be shut down remains unclear. The developers have only guaranteed 2026; theoretically, continued operation in 2027 is also possible, albeit unlikely.
Without new updates, New World will likely have no significant future, even though players can still enjoy the MMORPG for over a year. At least, due to the server mergers, there will probably still be enough other players to find.
It is also conceivable that the developers will carry out further mergers throughout 2026 if player numbers continue to decline.
