2. Mark Hamill
Appearances: Among others: Between 1992 and 1995 in Batman – The Animated Series, Batman Arkham series
No one has voiced the Joker as often as Mark Hamill. In countless games, series, and films, he embodied a multifaceted Joker with his voice: the funny, the sinister, or the crazy Joker from the Arkham games.
No Joker has the charm that Mark Hamill conveys through his voice. But he also brings the impulsiveness of the character across to us as an audience. Great praise also goes to Hans Sievers, who voices the Joker in the animated series in the German dubbing, and to Bodo Wolf, who voices the Joker in the German version of the Arkham games.
Both manage to bring the character of the Joker to life solely with their voices, even in German.
1. Heath Ledger
Appearances: 2008 in The Dark Knight
When Heath Ledger was announced as the Joker, many did not believe in him. How could a Hollywood pretty boy embody the iconic villain? When the film was released, Ledger delivered a performance that no one who has seen the film will forget.
He fits perfectly into the Nolan Batman universe with his design, and he almost seems like a force of nature that exists only to oppose Batman. He is chaos that goes against society and wishes to destroy order.
There’s not much more to say about his acting. His gestures and expressions are almost charming, but this is interrupted by his violent streak. He is eloquent, but still just a shadow of how we imagine clowns to be.
What do you think of the rating? Who is your favorite Joker? Please share it with us in the comments. The Joker is one of the most well-known villains in the world, and Heath Ledger has permanently changed the image of the character. One of his most important characteristics was not even planned: The licking of the Joker’s lips in The Dark Knight has nothing to do with his past – it’s due to his costume.
