There are new rumors about which new game the people are working on, which Bungie (Destiny 2) sent to Sony in July 2024. It is said to be a new shooter in a ‘science-fantasy’ universe. Apparently, Bungie has been working on this for a while.
What do we know about Bungie’s work? We know that Bungie officially only works on 2 game franchises:
- on Destiny
- and on the extraction shooter Marathon
All other projects that were being worked on were officially cancelled on July 31, 2024. However, there is one exception.
A part of Bungie, 75 employees were spun off and transferred to a new studio under Sony. They are apparently still working on a new game that they had previously worked on for Bungie. This is now under a new studio from Sony, which we do not know the name of. There are now rumors about this game.
Action game in a science-fantasy universe
What kind of mysterious 3rd game is this? It is supposed to be a new brand that Sony is developing in cooperation with the former Bungie employees. It is said to be an ‘action game in a brand new science-fantasy universe,’ as stated. And Bungie has been working on this for a long time.
The father of zombies from COD is supposed to lead the studio
Who is their boss? The new head of this Sony studio is said to be Jason Blundell, who according to the site ‘Insider Gaming,’ which refers to a Twitch from ‘Glitching Queen,’ is supposed to have transitioned there.
This is not confirmed – but there are further earlier statements that support this (via x).
Jason Blundell has been in the gaming industry since 2006 and played a significant role as the Creative Director at the Call of Duty developer Treyarch. Here he primarily shaped the campaign and the zombie mode of the military shooter.
He is known for multilayered narratives and morally gray characters.
After Blundell left Treyarch in 2020, his career did not go very smoothly: he founded his own studio, Deviation Games, but left the studio already in September 2022 – and the studio then closed in March 2024.
It is not known how long Blundell has been working at the new studio for Sony.
What could this game be? If it does not take place in the Destiny universe or in Marathon, the last name circulating is ‘Matter’. But that is pure speculation.
