Fey or Shadow Touched
- Players Handbook (2024), page 203, page 206
- Ability score increase by 1 (either Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma) to a maximum of 20
- Fey Magic: One spell of divination or enchantment magic, and also gain the spell Misty Step
- Shadow Magic: One spell of necromancy or illusion magic, and also gain the spell Invisibility
- The newly learned spell can be used once per long rest without using a spell slot
The winner of this list is two talents together, as they are simply too similar to be mentioned separately, yet still have their own flair. Fey Touched or Shadow Touched characters gain, due to “their touch with the Feywild or Shadowfell magic” (via Players Handbook page 203, 206), not only an ability score increase to their Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma but also access to a respective useful spell that really any character in Dungeons & Dragons can benefit from:
Fey Touched gain the spell Misty Step to teleport to an open space to attack better, escape, or reach hard-to-reach places.
Shadow Touched learn the spell Invisibility, which can offer many advantages in combat, but also for spying, sneaking, and other plans.
These two spells of magic-touched as well as a chosen spell of the respective magic can be used by the user once per long rest without consuming a spell slot.
Due to the many options, every character should find a spell that fits their build. Especially spells of enchantment magic (Fey Touched) and illusion magic (Shadow Touched) offer many opportunities which are particularly useful outside of combat to influence or deceive others.
And since many D&D players love to deal as much damage as possible instead of learning further strategic abilities, the spells that these talents enable are a good starting point.
