Place 2: Carrie
- Released: 1976
- Director: Brian De Palma
The first film adaptation of a novel by Stephen King is also based on the author’s first book. It tells the story of sixteen-year-old girl Carrie, who faces bullying at school. At home, she also has a hard time, as her mother tends to have insane religious outbursts.
In both cases, Carrie gets into trouble when she has her first menstruation. The classmates bully her for it, and her mother condemns her. All of this leads Carrie to discover her supernatural abilities. She can use telekinesis, meaning she can influence things just by the power of her thoughts.
Brian De Palma directs the eerie story in a highly effective manner, creating unforgettable moments – for example, when the bloodied Carrie seeks revenge at the prom. With Sissy Spacek, a fantastic lead actress was chosen, and overall this adaptation is significantly better than the ones that followed in 2002 or 2013.
