Place 6: Christine
- Released: 1983
- Director: John Carpenter
No one less than horror icon John Carpenter (Halloween, The Thing) adapted a story by Stephen King into a film. A perfect mix, right? Well, the film is successful, but the catch is that you have to accept the utterly absurd premise of the story.
In Christine, the student Arnie finds an old, red car that goes by the titular name. It soon turns out that it is actually an evil entity that changes Arnie for the worse. Christine can also drive herself around and kill people – especially those who are not well-disposed towards Arnie.
Thus, a dependency slowly develops between the human and the car. Carpenter’s adaptation is the best 80s horror cinema, somewhat campy, with a dense atmosphere and a great soundtrack. Just don’t take the story too seriously – but logic is rarely helpful in the case of Stephen King.
