Stephen King has written many books that were later adapted into films. MeinMMO author Christoph Waldboth recommends in this list what he considers to be the 7 best that every horror fan should see.
How was the ranking created? Stephen King is arguably the most famous horror author of our time, and many of his stories are already legendary. Characters like the horror clown Pennywise or Jack Torrance from The Shining became unforgettable, not least because of the numerous adaptations over the years.
In this list, we want to show you 7 strong film adaptations. We focus on stories that can be categorized as horror and exclude series. This is only about the films. The list is based on the author’s personal opinion. If you know any other successful examples, feel free to share them with us in the comments at the end.
Place 7: The Mist
- Released: 2007
- Director: Frank Darabont
Frank Darabont is responsible for two of the best King adaptations: The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile. However, both are not horror films, which excludes them from this list. The Mist has made it to place 7. The film is based on a short story by King and unleashes a creepy and opaque mist on a small town.
Protagonist David finds himself with his son in a supermarket, where they and other town residents seek refuge from the deadly creatures hiding in the mist. This creates a thrilling dynamic among those present, who disagree on how to proceed.
The adaptation offers an alternative ending compared to the novel, which is quite successful, and otherwise maintains good suspense. Although there are no major highlights, The Mist belongs to the successful King adaptations. For fans of the author, the film is definitely worth a look.
